Alcoa Packaging Presents Grant for Nonprofits
Alcoa Packaging, Richmond, Virginia USA presented a $76,500 Alcoa Foundation grant to Virginia Commonwealth University and its Nonprofit Enterprise Institute to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of non-governmental organizations by applying business and entrepreneurial strategies and practices in their organizations. The grant is part of Alcoa Foundation's International Social Venture/Enterprise Initiative. VCU's Nonprofit Enterprise Institute is the grant recipient responsible for developing the financial sustainability plans of four nonprofit Richmond organizations -- Boaz and Ruth, Housing Opportunities Made Equal, James River Association, and Memorial Child Guidance Clinic -- selected because of the feasability of their enterprise proposals. Under the institute's guidance, each of the four nonprofits will receive professional consulting services by representatives of the National Center on Nonprofit Enterprise, VCU's Nonprofit Enterprise Institute and School of Business, as well as volunteers from Alcoa Packaging.
