Baco Rainbow week helps makes healthy eating more colourful

Most parents know the importance of healthy eating, but many struggle to put this into practice with young children who prefer more colourful and appealing pre-packaged snacks and fast food. Despite additional government funding, NHS 5-A-Day research has shown that on average, children in England eat only two portions of fruit and veg a day and one in five children don't eat any fruit at all.

Baco Rainbow is helping parents to provide a healthy diet for their kids with their annual Baco Rainbow Week, which starts on the 10th November. The simple scheme has been designed to be easy to follow, while making healthy food more appealing to kids. Each of the five days represents a colour of the Baco Rainbow and children are encouraged to eat a selection of fruits and vegetables from that colour group during the course of the day.

To make things simple, Baco Rainbow has compiled suggestions of foods for each day. Fresh, frozen, canned or dried fruit and vegetables can all count towards the five daily portions, as well as 100 per cent fruit juice, so there are plenty of opportunities for getting your daily quota. Following the Baco Rainbow Week programme ensures that children get a range of vitamins and nutrients as well as a varied and colourful diet.

With the Baco Rainbow food preparation and storage range, it's easier than ever to make sure that children can take an appealing selection of fruit and vegetables with them as snacks or in packed lunches. The range has been designed especially for children and includes colourful sandwich bags with stickers and re-sealable character snack bags, making them perfect for wrapping up colourful lunchboxes.

Getting children involved in preparing food can also make them more inclined to eat a larger variety of foods. There are a number of child friendly recipes available on Rainbow Island which are not only easy and quick to make but also provide wholesome treats for lunchboxes and food on-the-go.

Casper Gorniok, marketing manager of the Baco Rainbow range, said: "Healthy eating is firmly on the agenda for most families and schools and the Baco Rainbow range is designed to help make good food more fun for children. Our feedback from parents reveals that many find getting children to eat fresh and healthy food a major battle and are constantly looking for ways to make fruit and vegetables more appealing. The Baco Rainbow products make lunchboxes and their contents more fun and colourful so children are more likely to eat what has been prepared for them."

In addition, parents can demonstrate the importance of a healthy diet through play, with a variety of games both on and offline available on Rainbow Island. Baco Rainbow products are available from all major supermarkets and are found with the foil products.
